Compensation:  $80K - $103K

  

Location:  Various job sites

  

Are you a meticulous and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in nuclear power?  Do you thrive in an environment where safety, compliance, and precision are of paramount importance?  If so, we invite you to join our team as a Radioactive Material/Waste Shipping Specialist.  As a key member of our organization, you will be trained and qualified to play a vital role by ensuring the safe and compliant transportation of a variety of radioactive material/waste produced in the nuclear power industry.

  

Required Qualifications:

  

  • Naval Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate

  • Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) (Prototype Training)

  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communications, technology (computer software),           and problem-solving skills

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure compliance with safety protocols

  • Position requires travels

  

Preferred Qualification:

  

  • Honorable discharge from US Naval service

  • Engineering Laboratory Technician Training (ELT)

  • Qualified Senior Watch-Stander on a Naval Nuclear Power Plant (MM, EM, ET)

  • Advanced RADCON training

  

Provided Training:

  

  • Regulatory training to comprehend the responsibilities of the NRC and other government agencies in managing radioactive waste

  • Department of Transportation (DOT)/Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Radioactive Waste Packaging, Transportation and Disposal Training

  • International Air Transport Association (IATA)/DOT Air Transport of Radioactive Materials Training

  • Load Securement Training - Standards for Protection Against Shifting and Falling Cargo

  • RADMANâ„¢ training (RC-102) and advanced RADMANâ„¢ training (RC-1000)

  • Guidance regarding the requirements for maintaining unescorted access to nuclear facilities

  • On-the-Job Training (OJT) - Shipping Training of 3 to 6 months at various sites 

  • Mentoring – Working closely with an experienced radwaste shipper

  

Duties:

  

  • Ensure compliance with DOT) regulations, local, state, and federal transportation regulations

  • Interpret DOT regulations, waste acceptance criteria, and Department of Energy (DOE) Orders

  • Provide guidance and oversight for loading, handling, segregation, and securement of loads

  • Determine containers and conveyance marking, labeling, and placarding requirements

  • Calculate radionuclide and hazardous material inventories for packages and conveyances

  • Determine proper shipping names for packages

  • Prepare necessary documentation for shipping hazardous/radioactive materials and wastes

  • Perform DOT compatibility reviews for Waste Management Representatives

  • Inspect containers/packages for condition and proper marking and labeling prior to shipment

  • Assist Waste Management Representatives in selecting appropriate containers for waste packaging

  • Provide guidance for selecting conveyance types for shipments

  • Provide manifest paperwork for shipment documentation
